Hi John! Been a while since I posted here even if I check in at least once a month. (I'm Rosa)

Question: Is it possible that a squirrel makes a hole in my wood shake house but doesn't take up residence?

Back story: Three weeks ago to the day, I was awakened mid-morning by scratching outside. Understanding that I was hearing a squirrel, I went out for an inspection and found a hole just under my roof on a corner of the top level of my house. There are no other unrepaired holes in my home. So I'm thinking "Here I go again". I decided to call my trapper(used for raccoons) to put a t--e trap, catch the culprit, and then have the hole repaired.

But, I haven't heard a sound since, not inside nor outside nor in my walls or anything! No odor, no flies, nothing since that first scratching sound from the outside. I've checked in that area several times a day/night inside and out for the past three weeks and nothing.

I've scheduled my roofer/siding repairer to come close up the hole for next week because I don't want a squirrel hole to become a raccoon hole (been there/done that) But I am puzzled as to if a squirrel makes a hole in my home but doesn't take up residence. Have you, in your years of experience, heard of such a thing?

Thanks again and forever for your site and all I've learned from here and for the opportunity to ask for your thoughts.

Guess I need to send more chocolates:)

Sincerely, Rosa
