About 2 weeks ago there was a constant scratching inside my chimney. I pondered what to do about it, and I decided it might be a bird (that happened before and I just opened the flue and the front door, and it flew outside) Well, I opened the flue, and withing a couple of seconds this little ball of grey and possibly a little brown coloring also rolled into a ball about as big as my closed fist was about a foot away from my feet. I only saw it for a couple of seconds, and it literally disappeared. I walked around with a broom for several days thinking it would show itself and I could scoot it out the door. Well I haven't seen the little critter again. I set a squirrel trap this afternoon baited with peanut butter and peanuts. The day the little creature dropped in, I immediately closed my bedroom door and stuffed a towel under it. So...it could be hiding anywhere in my house just about it. I have a cat who has been totally useless. I think the varmint was eating his cat food. Anyway, if it's still inside, it must be alive because we smell nothing dead yet. Where would the thing be likely to be hiding out? Any help would be appreciated.
