Door handles? I assume they're not metal. That's a new one on me, Rob, but they do chew a lot of strange things.... Not sure if it's some kind of deficiency or not, but that could be the problem.
Usually with these "chewing" problems, I recommend using a sacrificial item of the same sort. They often chew on patio cushions, so I recommend an OLD cushion for them to destroy.
Perhaps covering the handles with some kind of tape might work, make sure it is easy for you to get it off.
Unfortunately, I know of no chemical that would deter them without it deterring you....
Other than that, you can attempt to trap them, it's usually only a small number of them that do this, not all squirrels.
