I had squirrels nesting in an interior wall of my house a few years ago and an acquaintance suggested noise to get rid of them - as in shooting off firecrackers in my attic. As I thought that was a possible fire hazard :), I decided to try a less drastic approach. I took a boom box and aimed it right at the spot on the wall where I heard the squirrel activity (and yes, I know it was squirrels because I saw them entering and leaving from a small opening in an interior garage was). I played basically 80s punk music (ala The Ramones) for about an hour at full volume. Squirrels left and never came back! Fast forward a couple of years and some critter noises in the attic - big critter noises like maybe a raccoon - so I tried the same tactic again with my Bose stereo cranked up with similar tunes. Voila - another eviction. I am really a believer in this technique now and will use it first every time critters move in!
