You sure it's squirrels? Have you actually seen them do this? (Not that they wouldn't, squirrels do strange things sometimes.) But I have not seen them make "little piles." Maybe raccoons? Have they entered the attic?

At any rate, you must find out which animal(s) are doing this. Then you trap and remove them - assuming they're animals doing this.

It would be easier to trap in the attic, then you only trap the offending animals.

Find out what is doing this first.
