Sometimes it takes some brain power... Bait the trap, leave it closed and leave some chum OUTSIDE the trap. This is to make sure that whatever is taking the bait can't get in and out of the trap when it's closed.

If the chum is gone, and the bait inside the trap is still there, re-enable the trap WITHOUT any chum or bait. Make her hunt for it.

And, of course, this is after you have made sure your trap is operating correctly...
