Funny you should mention that... Last week, one of the guys brought in a couple of traps from a closed job, then instead of putting them in the garage, he left them by the door - he said the clicker wouldn't open the door, battery was dead. The next day I came in from doing something and noticed a squirrel nosing around the trap. I waited a bit and sure enough, he went in. No bait, but he was LOOKING! Trap wasn't set, so as soon as I got out of the car, he ran away.
So yes, you can put them into a favored place and they'll find them. Our property is small also, so they will adjust to that. Very adaptable animals, I'm always surprised at what they can do!
