Less than a mile away? It's a good chance that most of them came back. Not a good thing to do.

Stupid? I doubt it, but you're letting the squirrels get ahead of you. Just take a careful, considered approach to the job and quit worrying about it. You'll make mistakes.

You don't need a trapper, you just need to get going. A couple of Hava-hart 1040s will get you there. That and a LOT of patience.
