Assuming there were no nearby bushes or trees from which to jump, would a squirrel be able to enter an attic if the soffit was completely removed? It would have to hang over the gutter and reach all the way to the edge of the house (about 12"). Not sure how it could jump that gap if it is hanging at a 90 degree angle.

I'm pretty sure my squirrel is in the soffit area and is not venturing out into the rest of the attic where I have a tuned-up have-a-heart waiting (with yummy peanut butter & peanuts).
