How far in to December to trap?

I have a new squirrel in a wall of my house. The entry site is obvious. He/she is trap shy or I just need to learn more.

I am concerned that we may be nearing litter time for females. I am in southern Connecticut.

How far into December should I go? I read the section about releasing nursing mothers but what is the likelihood I'll actually be able to see nipples on a live squirrel careening around a trap?

I am also considering using a tube trap. Since no living squirrel has ever seen one! But if I use the tube trap successfully I won't be able to release a nursing mother :(.
