Ok, forget trying to fix holes until you've caught the interlopers. Set up traps (that's plural) inside and outside, make sure they're LIVE traps and follow my directions.

When you think you've trapped them all, stuff the hole(s) with a rag or something. If it stays there for a few days, patch the holes. Use half inch hardware cloth.

If they don't try and get back in after that, fix it the right way.
