After almost the entire summer of being squirrel free, today, I heard the unmistakable scratching sounds of a squirrel(s) in my attic. As per usual, I set two traps, baited with peanut butter on bread, outside my house, late this afternoon. When I checked them this evening, I found that the bread was missing from each one of the traps, but they (the traps) were still set and empty. I have seen chipmunks in my yard, so I suspect that they stole the bait without springing the traps.
There is a chance that squirrels took the bait, but did not spring the trap, but based on my catch and kill record of 50+ tree rats, I kind of doubt it. Do you think it could be chippies, or mice? Do you have any thoughts or ideas for me to try? I do have some smaller traps, 1030 or 1020, but I am not sure they are small enough for chippies.
Thanks,
Yank
