Get rid of the sofa. It'll never smell right. Never store upholstered furniture in an outdoor building, such as a garage or at one of those storage places. They are always infested with mice and other rodents.

When you throw it out, put a note on it so no one else will pick it up, although the bedbug scare has most people aware of the problem anyway.
