You're not going about it in the right way.... First of all, you trap BEFORE you plug the holes. Once you plug the holes, they won't really be interested in food, they just don't want their way out blocked. They may chew their way out before they enter a trap, hard to say.
If this has been going on for 5 years, you have a lot of work to do. KEEP that trap, you WILL need it in the future. Get a Hava-Hart 1040 - better yet, get TWO. And start trapping in your attic and outside too. Follow the path I show in my two squirrel pages. Read everything, including all the popups and click on the pictures, they often have more text.
Do this the right way and never let it go this long.
