Traps are still the best, you can use acorns for bait. Super glue them to the treadle.
Shooting? Tough call. These varmints catch on quick. If you're going to do that, best is to do itfrom above, say a bedroom window, and you can't poke the gun out the window. Do it from INSIDE the room, so the source of the sound is not so plain to the squirrel. Otherwise, you'll get off a shot or two and then they'll be super wary. Ain't easy shooting squirrels, it's an art. You go into the woods with a gun and you won't see a squirrel within a hundred yards. And you KNOW they're out there....
But give it a shot (another pun) they do have short memory - see what happens. Let me know.
