I have always preferred live trapping, squirrels are easy to trap and live trapping means that in the event you catch a non-target animal, you can let them go easily. The traps I use are made from galvanized steel and are not affected by weather.

As far as the "bait" is concerned, whatever works, although (strangely enough) I have never had to use anything more than just plain peanut butter and a slice of bread.
