If he's been in there for 3 weeks, he probably has a way in and out already. Unless, perhaps, you're feeding him and he's getting water.

Usually I tell people to open a window to get a squirrel out - DON'T CHASE HIM, he'll go out on his own.

Are you SURE it's a squirrel and not a rat?
