They are "social," so there are usually multiples.... Take it slow. Chum the areas you intend to trap for a few days or so, use bread or apples soaked in maple syrup. Leave the traps out, unset, so they get used to them. Do this in several areas, find the best places. Then, when you think they might be ready, make a FEW lethal. Not all of them, leave a couple of places non-lethal and keep baiting them.

After a couple of days, swith the lethal for the non-lethal. Think on your feet.
